Behavioral and Mental Health Design Toolbox

Checklists and other tools

The Center for Health Design (CHD) has published this design tool to help designers and care providers identify a universal design approach to facilities where behavioral and mental health patients are served. Design that supports safety for these individuals will also affect the experience of staff, visitors, and other patients; this tool supports evaluation of specific design features to determine their broader effects and suitability for specific projects.

The toolbox contains a library of curated content connecting the built environment to better health outcomes and reduced cost of care. Typically, a portion of each CHD Topic Toolbox is free and open to all, with Affiliate+ members having access to the complete content. However, all behavioral and mental health materials produced for this toolbox will be available free to everyone through March 2020 thanks to CHD and its partners Accurate Lock & Hardware, architecture+, Stance Healthcare, and Whitehall Manufacturing,

New content has been added to the Behavioral and Mental Health Toolbox in spring 2019. Read more about the tool on the CHD website.
