Tina Duncan, AIA, ACHA, CBO (President)
Principal, HKS, Inc., Dallas, Tex.
Tina is an expert in regulatory compliance for the design and construction of health care facilities. A registered architect, she has more than 18 years of experience as a project architect and health care planner. She focuses on the technical aspects of health care design and has a keen understanding of how regulatory requirements affect the built environment. That basis of regulatory knowledge motivated her to transition her career to the complex field of health care building codes. At HKS, Tina provides firmwide technical and regulatory project review and leads educational seminars on the topic for the company. “Creating a safe, responsible environment for people to live and thrive involves a great deal of communication and collaboration,” she believes. “Understanding issues and providing solutions is paramount to achieving success.”
As an active member of the codes and standards community, Tina chairs the Codes and Standards Committee for the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH) and the Dallas AIA Codes and Standards Council. She is a member of the International Code Council and National Fire Protection Association. Tina also is a certified building official and certified accessibility reviewer.
In 2018 Tina joined the 2022 FGI Health Guidelines Revision Committee as a representative of the AIA/AAH Codes and Standards Committee. She was a subject matter expert for the 2018 edition of the Guidelines for Design and Construction of Outpatient Facilities. Recently, Tina has been working with code officials in the State of Texas as they consider adopting the 2018 FGI Guidelines.
